Description
Documents issued in a foreign country which will be used in the Kurdistan Region, such as powers of attorney, university certificates, birth, death and marriages records, must be “authenticated” or “legalized” by the KRG's Ministry of Justice before they can be recognized as valid in the Kurdistan Region.

Conditions
The documents must be originals or certified copies.
Documents issued in a foreign country must be certified by the KRG's Department of Foreign Relations prior to making the authentication request at the Ministry of Justice.
The requestor, legal representative or immediate family members are eligible to request the service.
The documents must be authenticated by the foreign ministry of the country of issuance, as well as the Iraqi embassy or KRG representative in the relevant country.

The National ID and Residence Card of the requestor, or Passport and Residency or any ID compatible with the documents requested to be authenticated (originals and copies).
Originals and copies of the documents to be authenticated.

Procedures
Following authentication of the documents at KRG's DFR, the requestor visits the KRG's Ministry of Justice to start the process.
The requestor visits the foreign relations manager's room at the Ministry of Justice to obtain approval.
Then visits the document verification room to complete the transaction.
